A private jet flying from Moscow to St Petersburg crashed near the village of Kuzhenkino in Tver region, killing all 10 people on board. Russia's aviation agency Rosaviatsia said Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list, and on 27 August Russia's Investigative Committee said genetic tests confirmed he was among the dead. The cause was not established by Russian investigators at the time. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Western suggestions that the Kremlin ordered his killing an absolute lie; the Pentagon said its initial assessment was that Prigozhin was likely killed, and Al Jazeera reported a preliminary US intelligence assessment that an intentional explosion caused the crash. The crash came two months to the day after Prigozhin's June mutiny.
