Tens of thousands of displaced Lebanese head home as shelling and demolitions continue near the border
Reportedon origins from one side only: 2 distinct origins, 0 tied to no party.
Tens of thousands of displaced families returned towards southern Lebanon on 18 April, Al Jazeera reported, while its correspondents saw Israeli bulldozers demolishing and clearing land and reported Israeli shelling around Beit Lif, al-Qantara and Toul. A preliminary Lebanese government assessment made before the truce found nearly 40,000 homes destroyed or damaged. Residents closest to the border were largely unable to return; Israeli officials said Israel would keep control of 55 towns and villages. Lebanon's health ministry had put displacement since 2 March at about 1.2 million.
