Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki said Saudi air defences destroyed a Houthi drone before it entered prohibited airspace over Mecca, calling it the second Houthi attempt on the city after a 2017 missile launch, Reuters reported. Houthi politburo member Hazem al-Assad called the claim a worn-out lie, AFP reported. Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry condemned a cowardly terrorist attack and reserved the right to take all necessary measures. The incident came as fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed forces escalated along Yemen's Red Sea coast.
