US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and a Ukrainian team led by Rustem Umerov and Kyrylo Budanov met a Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi on 4 and 5 February. Zelensky called the agreement on a prisoner exchange a significant result, and Umerov described the talks as meaningful and productive. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the door to a settlement remained open but Russia would fight on until Ukraine took the relevant decisions. The status of Donbas and post-war security guarantees remained unresolved.
