A fire burned in one of the cooling towers of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant on the evening of 11 August. The IAEA said its team on site saw heavy smoke after multiple explosions, that the plant reported a drone attack on a cooling tower, and that no impact on nuclear safety was reported; it asked for access to the tower. President Zelensky blamed Russian forces, while Russian-installed officials Vladimir Rogov and Yevgeny Balitsky blamed Ukraine. All six reactors were in cold shutdown and both sides and the IAEA reported normal radiation.
