Overnight on 3 February Russia launched 71 missiles and 450 drones, according to President Zelensky, two days after the Kremlin's pause on strikes on Kyiv expired. The Darnytsia combined heat and power plant, which heats about 1,100 apartment buildings in east Kyiv, suffered what Mayor Vitali Klitschko called critical damage that would take no less than two months to repair; heat and power plants in Kharkiv and Dnipro were also hit. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, arriving in Kyiv that day, said the attack did not show Moscow was serious about peace. Trump rejected the view that Putin broke the pause, saying it ran only until 1 February.
