Iranian authorities signalled they intend to disrupt an Arab-operated, US-assisted shuttle system that has allowed more energy exports through the strait, Al Jazeera reported from Tehran. An Iranian army chief of staff, Habibollah Sayyari, told state television on 11 October that Iran "struck blows against enemy vessels" and would strike again. UKMTO reported ship masters near Ras al-Khaimah were told by radio overnight to leave their anchorages.
