12 October 2026 in brief

Lebanon's health ministry counted 4,389 people killed and 12,424 injured since 2 March. [1][2] The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted a Houthi ballistic missile fired at Riyadh and two at Khamis Mushait, and Riyadh airport stayed closed. [1] Iranian authorities signalled they would disrupt the US-assisted shuttle system moving Gulf oil through the strait, Al Jazeera reported, and UKMTO said ship masters near Ras al-Khaimah were told by radio to leave their anchorages. [1] Australia and New Zealand advised citizens to avoid Riyadh's main airport, following warnings from the United States, Canada, the UK, South Korea and Japan. [1] UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham told parliament the suspected plot against RAF Fairford was "almost certainly" directed by the IRGC and announced sanctions on two Iranians, and Tehran denied responsibility.
