US Central Command said a service member was killed on 18 July in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone, and a second suffered minor injuries, NBC News and Time reported. The Pentagon later identified the soldier as a 30-year-old sergeant. It was the third US death in two days after the attack in Jordan. Iran has fired drones at Erbil, which hosts US forces, on several days since fighting resumed.
