UKMTO reported a vessel struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz between late 12 and early 13 September, with an engine room fire and the crew being evacuated. Oman's Maritime Security Center said on 15 September that the Royal Navy of Oman evacuated 23 crew from the Panama-flagged tanker El Gaia, attacked northeast of Musandam, that two were missing and that the ship was being towed to an Omani port; India's foreign ministry said 14 Indians were aboard and one was missing. The IRGC navy said on 14 September the tanker struck sea mines while crossing a restricted zone and was engulfed in flames. US Central Command called that false, saying the ship had been disabled by an Iranian missile the previous month and was hit again off Oman, reportedly by a drone.
