Saudi civil defence issued alerts for Riyadh and Al-Kharj early on 19 September, the first to affect the capital since the Yemen fighting resumed in July, and Reuters and AFP journalists heard two explosions before an all-clear. An eyewitness told Reuters of flames and black smoke near King Khalid International Airport later that day. The Saudi-led coalition said a Houthi ballistic missile fired at Riyadh at dawn was destroyed and that attempts on Bisha, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu were thwarted; it reported no damage. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said the group struck sensitive sites in Riyadh and Aramco facilities in Yanbu with missiles and drones.
