Russian missiles struck the village of Chaplyne in Dnipropetrovsk oblast on 24 August, Ukraine's Independence Day and six months into the invasion. Zelenskyy first said 22 were killed and about 50 wounded, and presidential aide Kyrylo Tymoshenko later gave a toll of 25, including a boy killed in his home. Russia's defence ministry said it hit a military train carrying reservists and killed more than 200 servicemen, which Ukrainian officials denied.
