US Treasury suspends Iran licences for bunkering, emergency ship repairs and overflight payments

Reportedon origins from one side only: 2 distinct origins, 0 tied to no party.

OFAC indefinitely suspended general licences and a licensing policy under the Iranian Transactions and Sanctions Regulations covering bunkering and emergency repairs, certain payments for overflights of Iranian airspace, and aircraft safety, effective 8 September 2026, according to its Federal Register rule (91 FR 57511). OFAC cited Iran's disruption of global energy markets, attacks on partners in the region and efforts to monetize the Strait of Hormuz, among other reasons. A similar rule stayed five other Iran general licences from 24 August 2026 (91 FR 54957).
