Russia's defence ministry said on 26 January its troops had captured Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk oblast, the Guardian reported, adding that the claim could not be independently verified. Ukraine's 110th Mechanized Brigade said it had withdrawn from some parts of the town to avoid encirclement and that fighting continued.
