UKMTO said an IRGC gunboat fired without VHF contact on a container ship about 15 nautical miles north-east of Oman at 03:55 on 22 April, heavily damaging its bridge with all crew safe; Lloyd's List and Vanguard identified it as the MSC-chartered Epaminondas. A second ship, the Euphoria, was fired on about 8 nautical miles west of Iran and stopped, without damage. The IRGC Navy said it seized the MSC Francesca and the Epaminondas for operating without permits and tampering with navigation systems and took them to the Iranian coast, the first Iranian ship seizures of the war. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez condemned the attacks and urged release of the ships and crews; White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the seizures did not violate the truce because the ships were not US or Israeli. An Al Jazeera photo caption later dated the IRGC's seizure of the Epaminondas to 24 April, and Greece's shipping ministry initially denied it had been seized.
