Russia's defence ministry said its forces had completed the capture of all of Luhansk Oblast, which Russia claims to have annexed in 2022. Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Joint Forces grouping, said there were no changes to report while acknowledging Ukraine holds only small patches of the region. Neither claim could be independently verified. The Institute for the Study of War said at the same time that Ukraine had made its most significant gains since August 2024 elsewhere on the front.
