Russia's defence ministry said Ukraine had begun a large-scale offensive across five sectors of the front, and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed all attacks were repelled and 3,175 Ukrainian soldiers killed in three days. Ukrainian deputy defence minister Hanna Maliar reported advances of up to 1,600 metres north of Bakhmut and 700 metres to the south. The Institute for the Study of War said Russian sources were likely trying to portray the offensive as an immediate failure.
