The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine said it verified 1,396 civilians killed and 7,978 injured from January to June 2026, a 37 per cent rise on the same period of 2025. It said June alone saw at least 293 killed and 1,990 injured, the highest monthly toll since April 2022, driven by Russian long-range missiles and drones hitting cities and by short-range drones near the front line. The mission noted that Russian authorities reported 250 civilians killed and 1,596 injured on Russian territory in the same period, figures it did not verify. Its cumulative count since February 2022 stood at 16,431 civilians killed.
