Russia claims to have captured Kostiantynivka in Donetsk oblast; Ukraine says it still holds the city
Reportedon one origin only: 0 distinct origins, 0 tied to no party.
Russian commanders told President Putin on 3 July that their forces had taken Kostiantynivka, and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the city belonged to Russia and repeated an invitation for Zelensky to meet Putin in Moscow, Reuters reported. Ukraine's General Staff said units of its 19th Army Corps were still defending lines inside the town and on its outskirts, and Zelensky called the claim another Russian lie, saying Putin could meet him there if it were true. Russia's defence ministry proposed a six-hour local ceasefire on 6 July to hand over bodies of Ukrainian soldiers, the Kyiv Independent reported. Reuters could not verify either side's account; Kostiantynivka is the southern anchor of Ukraine's fortified belt in Donetsk oblast.
