The UN and Turkey announced the renewal of the Black Sea Grain Initiative just before it was due to lapse. Russia's foreign ministry said it had agreed to 60 days, half the previous term, while Ukraine's infrastructure minister said it was 120 days. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on 13 March the UN would do everything possible to preserve the initiative, which by then had moved about 24 million tonnes of grain in over 1,600 voyages, with 55 per cent of food exports going to developing countries, according to UN News.
