Putin says Russia will station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus
Confirmedon an admission by the acting party plus an independent origin: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.
Putin said on state television that Russia had agreed with Belarus to station tactical nuclear weapons there, that a storage facility would be finished by 1 July and that Russia would keep control of the weapons. He said 10 aircraft able to carry such weapons were already in Belarus, and threatened to use depleted uranium shells if the West supplied them to Ukraine, after a UK announcement. A senior US official said there was no sign Russia was preparing to use a nuclear weapon; NATO called the rhetoric dangerous and Ukraine sought a UN Security Council meeting.
