Russia and Ukraine each declare ships bound for the other's ports potential military targets

Confirmedon an admission by the acting party plus an independent origin: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.

After ending the grain deal, Russia's defence ministry said that from 20 July all vessels heading to Ukrainian Black Sea ports would be regarded as potential carriers of military cargo. Ukraine's defence ministry answered on 20 July that from 21 July vessels heading to Russian or Russian-occupied ports would be treated as carrying military cargo, and it closed the north-east Black Sea and Kerch Strait as dangerous. The declarations removed the security assurances that had covered grain shipping since July 2022.
