Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 158 missiles and drones, including about 122 missiles, of which 114 were shot down, in the largest aerial attack since February 2022. Ukrainian officials put the toll at 41 killed by 30 December, among them 17 in Kyiv, and at least 160 wounded; a maternity ward in Dnipro, a Kyiv metro station, homes, schools and warehouses were damaged in six cities. UN humanitarian coordinator Denise Brown attributed the attacks to Russia, and the UN monitoring mission later recorded 90 civilians killed and 421 injured across 12 oblasts between 29 December and 3 January. Poland said an unidentified airborne object briefly entered its airspace.
