US Central Command said a Navy MH-60 helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles into the engine room of the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova, disabling its steering, after the crew kept sailing toward an Iranian port despite warnings, gCaptain reported. UKMTO said the ship was about 71 nautical miles from Pakistan, all crew were accounted for with no injuries, and a fire was put out. CENTCOM put its blockade totals at 55 commercial vessels redirected, three disabled and two boarded. AIS data reviewed by gCaptain showed the ship sailing from India toward Jebel Ali before the incident.
