11 August 2026 in brief

Yemen's transport ministry said a Houthi attack on the cargo ship Tihamah at anchor in the Bab el-Mandeb strait killed four crew, and the coast guard said a second strike after rescuers arrived killed two more, with ten people injured, Reuters reported. [1] Lebanon's National News Agency said drone strikes near Nabatieh hit a vehicle and an ambulance team moving a wounded person, and Lebanese media said two people were hurt, but the IDF disputed the report, saying no IDF strike in the area was known. [1] US Central Command said a Navy helicopter fired two missiles into the engine room of the container ship Vela Nova in the Gulf of Oman to enforce the blockade of Iran, and UKMTO said the crew were unhurt. [1] The US Energy Information Administration raised its third-quarter Brent forecast to $85 a barrel, assuming Hormuz disruption lasts through August, and Freightos said Asia to US East Coast container rates reached a new high of $9,400 per 40ft box.
