President Volodymyr Zelensky said on 11 January that Ukrainian special operations forces and paratroopers had captured two wounded North Korean soldiers in Russia's Kursk region and taken them to Kyiv for questioning by the SBU, Ukrinform reported. Zelensky said the pair were receiving medical care like all prisoners of war. Ukraine, South Korea and the US had said since late 2024 that North Korean troops were fighting for Russia in Kursk; Russia did not confirm their presence at the time.
