Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said in Tehran on 7 July that Iran would from now on ask ships for the 'necessary costs' of services including securing safe passage, rejected Oman's proposal for a Malacca-style strait authority and French-British plans to demine the southern route, and said US efforts to open new routes breached the memorandum, the Guardian reported.
