7 July 2026 in brief

Iranian state media said several people were injured by shrapnel at the Sirik commercial pier and Iran's army said eight air force and navy personnel were killed, after CENTCOM said it struck more than 80 targets in southern Iran in response to the attacks on three commercial vessels. [1] The US Navy-led Joint Maritime Information Center raised the threat level for the Strait of Hormuz from substantial to severe. [1] Iran's foreign ministry said Iran would charge ships for services including securing safe passage, and rejected Oman's strait authority proposal and the French-British demining plan. [1] The US Treasury revoked the license that had allowed Iran to sell oil, which Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf called a major violation of the memorandum. [1]
