The International Atomic Energy Agency said on 28 December that repairs to transmission lines between the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant's switchyards and the nearby thermal power plant were under way during an IAEA-brokered local ceasefire, supervised by its team and expected to last several days. Director General Rafael Grossi called it part of efforts to prevent a nuclear accident during the conflict. The Russian-held plant has produced no electricity since Russian forces occupied it in March 2022, and its future control was one of two unresolved points in the US-Ukraine peace draft.
