Ukraine's grid operator introduced emergency power cuts in six regions on 15 January during what it called a massive Russian missile strike, the Guardian reported, and the energy minister said preventive measures were in force. The air force warned of cruise missiles heading towards Kryvyi Rih and the Chernihiv, Poltava and Mykolaiv regions and towards Kyiv. Russia's military had said a day earlier it would retaliate for Ukrainian strikes on Russia with US-made ATACMS and UK-made Storm Shadow missiles.
