Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant loses its last off-site power line and runs on diesel generators for almost three weeks

The Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant lost its connection to its last available 330 kV line, Ferosplavna-1, on 20 August because of military activity north of the Dnipro, the IAEA said, as reported by LB.ua. The plant relied on emergency diesel generators to cool its six shut-down reactors and spent fuel pools, and the IAEA warned diesel stocks were running low. The Arms Control Association reported that the IAEA had already recorded three losses of off-site power in the first eight days of August and on 14 August called the rising frequency of outages deeply concerning. The plant's main 750 kV line had been out of service since March.
