The US Navy-led Joint Maritime Information Center raised the threat level for transiting the Strait of Hormuz from substantial to severe on 7 July, citing likely deliberate hostile action, the first such rating since 15 June, Al Jazeera reported. Traffic had been running at one-third to one-fifth of pre-war levels. UKMTO also rated the threat severe on 9 July, the BBC reported, saying traffic continued at reduced levels on both a southern route near Oman and a northern route by the Iranian coast.
