UN rights office says Israeli strikes in Lebanon and Hezbollah rocket fire may breach humanitarian law

The UN human rights office said on 24 April that Israeli attacks on Lebanon and Hezbollah rocket fire into Israel in the first three weeks of the escalation 'may amount to serious violations of international humanitarian law', Al Jazeera reported. Spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan cited Israeli strikes on residential buildings that wiped out households, some with ineffective or no warnings, including an 8 March strike in Sir el-Gharbiyeh that killed at least 13 civilians, and said Hezbollah's unguided rockets likely violated the law. Deliberate attacks on journalists could be war crimes, the office said.
