Trump signs a sweeping Russia sanctions act targeting energy, defence and the shadow fleet; Kremlin calls it unfriendly

Confirmedon an admission by the acting party plus an independent origin: 1 distinct origin, 1 tied to no party.

President Trump signed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which targets Russia's energy and defence industries and shadow fleet tankers and authorises tariffs of up to 100 per cent on countries buying Russian oil and gas, Reuters reported via The Moscow Times. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the bill fell under the category of unfriendly actions and that new US sanctions would complicate efforts to reach a peace settlement. Trump later signed an order waiving the new sanctions, in October.
