Brig. Gen. Andriy Biletsky of Ukraine's 3rd Army Corps announced an offensive around the Lyman salient in Donetsk oblast on 15 September, claiming about 75 square kilometres cleared and Serednie retaken, the Kyiv Post reported; open-source analysts estimated Russia had lost 200 to 240 square kilometres. By 28 September the corps claimed 176 square kilometres across three phases, including villages north of Lyman, and the Institute for the Study of War assessed that Russian forces were not advancing there. ISW said Russian defence ministry claims of gains near Dobropillia contradicted available evidence. Russia had claimed Kostiantynivka in early July, which Ukraine disputed.
