16 July 2026 in brief

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said 211 patients undergoing chemotherapy were evacuated from a hospital in Ahvaz after a US attack nearby, which the US did not comment on, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Washington of war crimes. [1] CENTCOM said overnight strikes hit command centres, air defence sites and missile and drone capabilities, and Iranian media reported attacks from Bandar Abbas to Semnan. [1] Iran's army said it targeted radar and air defence systems at bases in Kuwait and Jordan, and Jordan said it intercepted eight Iranian missiles. [1] UKMTO said a tanker was hit by an unknown projectile about 19 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman, and CENTCOM said it disabled an oil tanker trying to sail to Kharg Island under the blockade. [1][2] Syria said it seized missiles, rockets and drones at the al-Tanf crossing that state media said were bound for Hezbollah, a claim Hezbollah denied as fabricated. [1]
