9 October 2026 in brief

UN envoy Hans Grundberg told the Security Council that Yemen had "slid back into full-scale war" and that civilians were bearing the brunt, as The National reported more than 200,000 people displaced since early August. [1] Lebanon's health ministry said an Israeli drone attack in Hermel district wounded six people, five of them Syrian nationals, and the Israeli military said it struck a man it accused of planning attacks on its forces in southern Syria "under the direction of the Iranian regime". [1] A vessel was struck by a projectile and set on fire off the UAE, UKMTO said, and the IRGC said it hit an LPG carrier on a route it called illegal, though it was not established that both reports describe the same ship. [1] The US Defense Department's casualty count stood at 21 US service members killed and 865 wounded in the CENTCOM area. [1][2] President Trump said after a call with Vladimir Putin that Russia would immediately supply over 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the American and global market, Al Jazeera reported. [1]
